Splurging at Cochon
The genesis of this meal was when I signed up for Freakonomics Experiments, who flipped a virtual coin for me and decided that I was to splurge on an expensive meal.
As luck would have it, I was scheduled to be in New Orleans a few weeks later. Great place to splurge on a meal. I agonized a bit over the restaurant choice, based on the following criteria:
- Attire requirements - I didn't pack any business attire, so I had to be able to stay pretty casual.
- Walking distance - I was staying in the CBD, so there were a lot of options, but I could rule out uptown favorites (Jacques Imo's, Commander's Palace, Clancy's, Gautreau's, Dick & Jenny's), but that didn't narrow it down by much.
- Someplace I'd never been before - this was preferred, but not required; I didn't get a chance to eat out much when I lived there, so there were a lot of choices for new culinary experiences
The winner: Cochon. I waited at the bar for about an hour until they could seat me at the Chef's Counter, which was awesome and well worth the wait. A picture's worth a thousand words:
Suffice it to say, I was stuffed...but I still walked myself back to the hotel.
