The Rumpus today has a great letter from Jack Kerouac to Marlon Brando, pleading with him to produce and co-star in a film version of On the Road. Kerouac himself would have played Sal (surprise, surprise), and he thought Brando would make a fine Dean Moriarty.

I'm told by @vonch that the film version of On the Road is currently in post-production. Cast members include:
Garrett Hedlund - Dean
Sam Riley - Sal
Kristen Stewart - Marylou
Kirsten Dunst - Camille
Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen will also appear, and the film is directed by Walter Salles.
